Euro-Asian EDI Adaptation (EA2)

Vendor companies are currently under pressure to offer their customers with the best product or service at the best price. They must consequently know where to pitch themselves against "stiffening competition " and ensuing cost pressure, succeed in boosting production capacity, maintain investment whilst minimising the risk factor, and keep up with the latest technological developments (as these can sometimes tip the scales in terms of sales strategy). In addition, it is no longer enough to achieve all this on an isolated basis - these objectives have to be met in collaboration with partners so that an integrated chain, in which every exchange of information has an important role to play, can be created.

In order to make progress with respect to the factors listed below - sales increase, faster stock turnover, stronger margins, higher proportion of fresh stocks, lower stocks of unsold products, reduced costs etc - companies now have to facilitate access to their products and offer high value-added services. They have no alternative but to exchange information on a consistent basis, both in-house and with their partners, and to achieve higher integration of the key procedures of its activity by ensuring application interactions on intranet (in-house) and also on extranet (partners and customers).

The diagram below illustrates how cooperative alliances can be achieved between a customer company and its supplier or manufacturer.

XML represents a different approach to traditional " doing business " practice: it relies on new forms of business relationships and new procedures in order to speed up information and product flows between customers and suppliers and manufacturers.

The overall objective is to improve competitivity and production levels, whilst also enhancing quality of service - both intra-company and with its partners.
